Over here at Hibner Design Group we are all so happy it's finally Fall! For us, that means cozy sweaters, warm colors and pumpkin spice lattes! To help get us in the mood, our Assistant Creative Director, Christa (who is also a floral designer) is showing us how to do a pretty Fall arrangement in under 10 minutes using flowers from the grocery store. In this case, we went to Trader Joe's because they have a great selection and amazing prices!
Christa says it's important to not only select flowers but to also grab a few different greens. She always starts by picking out the greens first and then builds her color pallete from there. Think about different sizes, textures and colors as you pick which flowers you want in your arrangement.
Our loot! We ended up with a bunch of eucalyptus, spray roses, craspedia (aka "Billy Balls"), mums and safari sunset.
Start building the base of your arrangement with your greenery. The most important tip Christa can give is to always criss-cross your stems as you place a new piece in to the container. The criss-cross grid will create the structure to hold your stems in place so they don't all fall to one side.
Once all the greens are in place, continue to add in the flowers one variety at a time, criss-crossing as you go. Continue to move around the vase so that the flowers are evenly distributed around the arrangement.
TIP: Always cut at a 45 degree angle! The angle cut allows the cells of the stem to absorb much more water this way... making your flowers extra happy!
Once all your flowers are in, you can do a once over to see if there are any holes or areas that need to be pushed out or in. To complete the Fall look, grab the mini pumpkins and place them next to your arrangement. Et voilà!
