[As told by Maryanne]
I fell in love with Santa Barbara...well...because of the soap opera, "Santa Barbara". I was a teen who studied the set design of the Capwell home (mind you, I thought it was a real house) as well as the strong women characters with their full-bodied hair and sophisticated lunches of cobb salad and iced tea. I was hooked. Fast forward many years later and it was only appropriate that I got married there, on a lovely cliff down to the street from The Biltmore (Four Seasons).
Full-haired cast of "Santa Barbara"
Celebrating 17 years now, we went back to where it all began, but this time as guests at the Belmond El Encanto. As a designer, I look for inspiration everywhere...I mean everywhere!
For those that have not visited the El Encanto, it is perfectly placed in the hills of Santa Barbara, nestled between very large homes. The Belmond received a major renovation that we were told took 7 years...and it paid off! The lobby is warm and inviting with sophisticated furnishings and accessories. The room we stayed in was a single bungalow suite on the 2nd floor. I was inspired by just about every detail around me...even down to the artistry of the information binders! I found relaxation and zen in this peaceful retreat. Here are some images that chronicle some of our trip. (stay tuned for part 2 with shopping recommendations)
