We hope you’ve had the chance to read all about our amazing time at the BD West/NEWH Fashion Challenge! If not, you can do so here. Now we are taking you behind the scenes to see what it's like to participate in the BD West/NEWH Fashion Challenge!
We received a box of materials from sponsors from the event, which ranged from tiles, fabrics, wallcoverings, and hardware. We were required to use at least one item from each sponsor to create a garment and an accessory piece. We were given a little under a month to find inspiration, finalize a design idea, and submit our vision board. That left us with about two weeks to execute the outfit!
Queen of The Galaxy
Once we received our assorted box of materials, we started brainstorming and browsing online for inspiration. One of the fabrics that we received from JAB Anstoetz reminded us of a cross between the milky-way and a gorgeous crystal stone. There was also a midnight blue glittered wallcovering which got us thinking along the lines of space and the stars. During our lunch breaks, the team snuck in watching old episodes of Project Runway for ideas on construction. All of this inspiration, lead us to our the "Queen of the Galaxy" theme and we hit the ground running!
Hard at Work
The competition was truly a team effort, and luckily, we had a sewist on our team! We spent our spare time gluing, cutting, sewing, spray painting until we had sticky fingers and glitter all over our hands! We had to not only create a garment, but also an accessory. We decided that no queen would be complete without her crown. Nothing seemed more fitting than a crown of stars! We decided to also give her a clutch and scepter that we constructed out of pieces of hardware received from C F Kent.
We are so proud of our Team and how the outfit and accessories turned out! We are also grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in this exciting event and worthy cause.
